RIP, Pablo.
A bengal, around nine or ten years old. A cat.
MY cat.
Found dead in a neighbor’s driveway, murdered by a hawk.
He was such an amazing pet. He wasn’t just a cat, though. He was a friend, an animal companion. He was pretty shy from most people, but he was so sweet— always there when I was feeling down, following me around the house, pawing at a door if I was in a closed room away from him, sleeping in my bed at night all curled up in my neck. He used to pace around the house, meowing brokenheartedly and as loudly as possible if I wasn’t home. Checking periodically underneath my room door, to see if I was there. He was such a perfect pet.
And now he’s gone.
We dropped the body off at a funeral home yesterday, to be cremated. Should take anywhere from one to five days, they said. /frowns.
My mom wouldn’t even let me see the body. She lied to me about its location, too. I got home from a friend’s house? In the car, immediately, “By the way, Pablo died on Friday.”
“Where’s his body? I wanna see it.”
“Oh, we dropped it off at the vet’s.”
No, we didn’t. It was bagged up in our fucking freezer.
And, the nightmares. Monday night, waking up from my sleep after having a frightening dream in which I was on this island, and there was this tsunami coming, and I was safely on higher ground but he was still on the sand, and meowing really loudly, and I ran down to save him before the wave hit but then—
I woke up, sobbing. Couldn’t sleep for an hour or two after that.

I miss him so much.
Sorry for the rant, not that anyone actually reads this. Pablo just meant a lot to me, is all. /shrugs.
